1. You will need three different sounding instruments. Show the children the first instrument and ask them what it is called. If they do not know, tell them. Demonstrate the sound of the chosen instrument. Suggest closing eyes. Ask again what it is called to make sure the children know its name then tell them (for example) "Every time you hear the castanet, we're all going to touch our noses". You can choose any action. Get them to do the action in time to your playing of the instrument. Repeat for second and third instruments, choosing different movements. You switch between playing the different instruments and the children change their actions accordingly.
2. When they've got the hang of it, try repeating the game from somewhere where they cannot see the instruments being played, so they have to decide which action to perform purely by distinguishing between the sounds.

1. Each baby is given an instrument and they play it to the pulse with the help of the adults as the first verse is sung. You then sing the second verse about one of the children in the circle changing the name and instrument in the lyrics accordingly. Everyone plays along. Repeat until every child has had a turn. If you have a large group, you can name all the children who have a particular instrument (e.g. maraca) before a verse and then sing ‘when the children, they play the maracas’. You can repeat for another group of children who are all playing egg shakers for example.
2. When the adults understand the activity, you can play along on your melodic instrument.
Activities are same as for babies
Activities one and two are same as for babies, except you choose the child or group of children and then ask the children to name the instrument that the child or group is playing.
3. Choose volunteers to have turns singing and playing a verse on their own, or a group of children with the same instrument singing and playing a verse together.
