Page 6 - Fairies & Pirates 2 hour
P. 6

“Every pirate must know how to scrub the deck.”
The pirates are scrubbing, the pirates are scrubbing, the pirates are scrubbing in Your Name Sparkles’ class.
“And all fairies and pirates must know how to dance!”
The fairies are pirates are dancing... The fairies and pirates are sleeping...
The fairies and pirates are waking...
“Now I’m going to be Captain Hook and chase you and see how many fairies I can catch!” Chase the children
as you sing the final verse.
Captain Hook is chasing...
Ask the birthday boy/girl if they would like to be the next Captain Hook. If they say no, choose someone with their hand up who managed to escape you. Remind the next Captain Hook that when you sing “Captain Hook is chasing” they must catch as many fairies and pirates as possible. Repeat and then choose a child who “managed to escape” to be the next Captain Hook (otherwise they’ll all just be caught on purpose). Repeat as many times as necessary (for example if there is no pass the parcel and/or not many children you may get through the activities quickly and so extend this one, or if you are running behind you could perform the activity just two or three times).
17. MUSICAL BUMPS: ‘You Are a Pirate’ performed by LazyTown
Ask the children if they know the game ‘Musical Bumps’. Tell them we’re going to play a game just like it called ‘Scrub the Deck’! “I’m going to give everyone a magic scarf which is going to be our pirate scrubbing cloth.“ Tell the children that as the music plays they are going to march around the room like pirates (demonstrate with a scarf as you say this) and when the music stops it means the captain’s coming and they must jump down and scrub the deck as quickly as they can (demonstrate jumping down as you say this). Do not eliminate children or make anyone ‘out’. Rather, tell them that you will be watching carefully and if they quickly scrub the deck when the music stops, then they will all get some magic sparkles at the end of the party! Play the track and the children march around the room with their scarves. Pause the music sporadically and the children jump down to the floor and scrub the deck. At the end of the game, congratulate the children on doing a great job and tell them they’ve all won some magic sparkles that you will give them at the end of the party.
18. PARACHUTE ACTIVITY WITH HIDING: ‘Tiny Fairies’ adapted by Lucy Milan Davis from a poem with an unknown source
“It’s time to play with the parachute again but first we need to practice the special rhyme.” Say the rhyme as you move the imaginary parachute from side to side to the pulse for the first three lines then lift it up high for the last line. The children should naturally copy your actions without being asked.
Tiny fairies,
So quiet and still. Will you come out? Of course we will!
“It’s time to take out the real parachute so we can hide like fairies.” Choose a few children (including the birthday child) to be fairies and they curl up into a tiny ball and hide under the parachute in the middle of the circle. The remaining children (who are seated) hold the edges of the parachute and move it gently from side to side to the pulse as you say the rhyme. After, “Will you come out?” pause for a moment and shout “Of course we will!” whilst quickly lifting the parachute up to reveal the hidden children. The children in the middle go back into the circle and you choose new children to hide under the parachute. The number of fairies hiding at one time will depend on the size of the group. For example, if there are 12 children or less they could go one at a time and if there are more than 20 you could have three or four at a time. After the game has been played a couple of times, encourage the children to say the words with you.
If you have a party assistant or if there is a willing parent nearby, ask them to hold the opposite end of the parachute and encourage the children to all go under together as you say the poem one final time.
