Page 7 - Fairies & Pirates 2 hour
P. 7
“To be like real fairies and pirates you have to be very clever so now we’re going to do the tricky version of ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ to see just how big and strong your brains are!” Play the track and perform the actions indicated by the lyrics. Don’t forget to sing a long and remind the children when to use their “thinking voices”. See if you can catch anyone out!
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, And eyes and ears and mouth and nose,
Head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes.
20. MAKE A MAGIC BIRTHDAY CAKE: ‘Chop, Chop’ by Traditional and ‘Happy Birthday’ by Traditional Tell the children that it’s almost time for bubbles but first they must make a magic birthday cake for the birthday child! Choose some volunteers to tell you which ingredients they would like to put in the magic birthday cake. Place the suggested ingredients onto your chopping board (flat palm facing up). Chop them with your knife (other hand) to the pulse as you say the first two lines of the poem. Mime putting the ingredients into the mixing bowl on the third line and repeat the chopping action again for the fourth line. Pretend to stir the mixture for the fifth line then have a cheeky taste!
Chop, chop, choppity chop,
Chop off the bottom and chop off the top. What we have left we will put in the pot. Chop, chop, choppity chop.
Stir it round, stir it round,
Tell me what you have found.
Say the poem just once or twice as you’ve done it already, make sure you make it as different from the first version as possible, and encourage the children to join in as ‘they know it really well now!’ Next, ask the children how long the cake should go in the oven for. Mime putting the cake in the oven and count out loud together to the suggested number of minutes. Next, take the cake out of the oven, mime putting candles on it and all sing the traditional ‘Happy birthday’ song. It’s a magic cake so tell the birthday child to “blow out your candles and make a wish!”
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear insert child’s name, Happy birthday to you.
21. GIVE THE BIRTHDAY CARD: ‘Happy Birthday’ by Traditional
Give the birthday boy/girl their card, read it aloud and sing the traditional ‘Happy Birthday’ song acapella.
22. BUBBLES: ‘Happy’ written and performed by Pharrell Williams
Play the song and use your bubble machine to create lots of bubbles for the children to pop. You should dance as you do this.
23. PRIZES: ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ performed by The Hit Crew or ‘Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)’ written by Xavier Atencio and George Burns and performed by Disney
Play the track and give each child some magic sparkles and a Haribo treat. Once you’ve packed up, remember to ask one of the birthday child’s parents if you can put a party flyer in each of the party bags and if you can have a photo with the birthday child (if consent for photo has been given on the booking form).
NB: If you did magic tricks during the food break (and therefore have already given out magic sparkles) there is no need to hand out magic sparkles again here. Just hand out the sweets.
