All trace heating tapes shall be capable of a maximum circuit length equal to 150 metres with a
power output of 10.9 watts/meter at +5oC, 240volts, straight traced and in accordance with the
thermal insulation requirements detailed previously in this Section of the Specification.
All trace heating circuits shall be controlled via an air sensing thermostat or by a line sensing
thermostat. Each circuit shall be protected electrically by use of earth leakage circuit breakers to
BS 3871: Part 1 or equivalent in combination with residual current devices and sized in strict
accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
All works shall be carried out in accordance with the latest IEE Regulations for electrical
installations.
Self-regulating heating tapes shall be applied direct to the pipework prior to insulating either
longitudinal or spirally including valves and fastened with either cable ties or adhesive tape. Once
the insulation has been applied, identification shall be provided to the insulation surface to
indicate the presence of trace heating.
