 Standard: To BS EN 124.
 Form: Double seals and grease, lock bolts; Non-rocking; Recessed covers for concrete filling;

Recessed covers for pavior filling; and Single seal.
 Materials: Ductile cast iron; Grey cast iron; and Steel.
 Finish: Black bitumen painted and Hot-dip galvanized.
 Sizes: Submit proposals.
 Loading grades: Submit proposals.
 Edging trims: Submit proposals.
 Integral accessories: Manufacturer's standard.

Execution

Formation for beddings in below ground drainage monitoring and control systems type A
 Timing: Excavate to formation immediately before laying bases or beddings.
 Mud, rock projections, boulders and hard spots: Remove. Replace with consolidated bedding

material.
 Local soft spots: Harden by tamping in bedding material.
 Inspection of excavated formations: Give notice.

Constructing brick shallow access chambers for below ground drainage type A

 Standards: To BS EN 752, and in accordance with relevant parts of the National Annex (NA);
In accordance with relevant parts of Sewers for adoption; In accordance with relevant parts of
Sewers for Adoption, Northern Ireland; and In accordance with relevant parts of Sewers for
Scotland.

 Base slab thickness: 150 mm.

 Chamber dimensions:
 Length (nominal internal): 450 mm; 675 mm; and 900 mm.
 Width (nominal internal): 450 mm and 675 mm.

 Depth (cover level to pipeline invert): As manhole schedule.

 Walls:

 Thickness: 215 mm.
 Bond: Manhole (water) bond.

 Laying bricks: Lay frogged bricks with frog upwards.

 Backfilling:

 Laying fill: Submit proposals.
 Compaction: By hand in 100 mm layers.

Fixing steps in below ground drainage monitoring and control systems type A

 Fixing: Bed in joints.

 Positioning: 300 mm vertical centres staggered 300 mm horizontally, with lowest step 300 mm
(maximum) above benching and top step 450 mm (maximum) below top of cover.

Laying preformed plastics channels, branches and benching in access chambers for below ground
drainage type A
