"Therefore all Nationalism parties and people were resisting for
freedom, and we had the war." In the loving voice, Nguyen said.
Nguyen stayed late to help his mother preparing the New Year.
He put a few of the rice cakes, two trays of sweetmeats, and a
watermelon in the order on the table at the between of the living
room. His mother cleans the dirt on the altar of Christ, and the
portraits of his grandparent while Nguyen's father sat on the sofa
that had moved to the corner of the living room at afternoon. He
was sipping tea, smoking and talking with Nguyen about his old
dates. He looked at his watch and reminded Nguyen:
"Nguyen. It was 10:00 PM now, you must hang the three salvos
of fire-cracker at the front door before 11:00 PM. I will light one of
them at the New Year's Eve to good-by an Old and welcome a New
Year at 00:00 o'clock. Tomorrow, you will light one and your brother
light another on the third day of the New Year."
Nguyen looked at his father, nodded his head while he said.
"Yes, sir...I will do..."
At 10:30 PM, the dogs of Mrs. Ngo-Van-Tien and Mr. Tran-Van-
Dong started barking at the Southside, about 300 feet from his
house. Then they were raged throughout to the Eastern at the front
of his house about 500 feet by the dogs of Mr. Bui-Quoc-Sung, Mr.
Nguyen-Van-Canh, and Mr. Trinh-Van-Xung.
Nguyen mother looked at his father.
"Why dogs were barking a lot while the time of New Year Eve
was nearly coming? Do you think that someone came into our
banana plantation to take banana at this time?" She asked.
In the moment of the thinking, Nguyen's father looked at
Nguyen's mother.
