                         DRUNKEN DRAWL

                                 Original “Câu Chuyện Đưa Cay”
                                                by NGUYỄN PHÚ LONG

Thuy-Kieu was sunk deep continuously in the sea of love,
And then myself, added to her, I thought no one else
               above.
Unexpectedly, you showed up to be the same as me:
Fellow-sufferers have mutual sympathy – what glee!

Drain to the dregs! Let us drink up our glass of wine!
Yeast in, we gain momentum to speak some words fine:
Our youth! how to find back each wonderful bygone day!
The luring look, nice smile erstwhile of such charming
               fay!

I loved, I have loved! It is superfluous to spin a long yam!
That guy Kim Trọng's passion was not worth a damn!
               Fifteen years: to no position to climb; I do not care a dime;
While my love lasted, have lasted and will last all my
               time.

I loved her who didn't love me, requite my great affection.
Mentioning the innermost feelings hurts in that
               connection.
Also melancholy, also angry, pitying too: my head aches.
Is it because of our destiny? so that my heart often
                breaks.
