Ki-woo, the son in the Kim family, was recommended for a tutoring job in a

wealthy family (Park family), the start of the two families’ encounter with each

other. After forging his credentials and getting the job, Ki-woo’s sister was the

next to enter into the Park family’s household after also forging her credentials

and pretending as an art-therapy teacher for the Park family’s youngest son.

Soon after, the head/father of the Kim family, Ki-taek, begins working as the

wealthy family’s driver/chauffeur after the Kims remove the previous chauffeur

of the family. Lastly, the mother of the Kims, Chung-sook, became the

housekeeper of the Park family’s home after framing the previous housekeeper

of having a dangerous illness (tuberculosis). Ending the start of the two families’

clash of class division.

Soon after all the Kim family members infiltrated the Park family by being

employed to them, the Kims assumed more and more of living lavishly as they

live in the wealthy family’s home, where it is undoubtedly more comfortable

than their semi-basement house. As the Kims feel and take the wealthy family’s

house as their own while the Park family is in a vacation trip, the previous

housekeeper, Moon-gwang, then rings the house’s bell and asks to enter the

house, reasoning that she had left something in the basement of the house. As

Moon-gwang enters the house and goes to the basement, the Kims discover that

Moon-gwang’s husband has been living in the basement for years, starting the

twist of fate for the Kim family as Moon-gwang also discovers that the people

consequently employed by the Park family are related and know each other.

Moon-gwang then blackmails the Kim family in reporting them out to the Park

family.

The night where Moon-gwang and the Kim family discover each other’s secrets

turned into chaos as they fight each other in vying for Moon-gwang’s

smartphone where it had a video of the Kims knowing each other. The night

then turns nerve-wracking as the Park family suddenly calls the house,

informing Chung-sook that they are on their way back home as the trip was

canceled due to heavy rain. The Kims then quickly cleaned the mess and Ki-taek

dealt with Moon-gwang and her husband by tying them up in the basement.
