III. Math Concepts Incorporated
Polya’s heuristics were utilized in this project, but the content was not
limited to the things that were discussed during the class. To further analyze
the movies, we must first understand the conflict, which would be followed by
their plans to resolve it and their execution. The conclusion will contain
whether the plan was properly carried out or failed to achieve its goals.
The Hunger Games franchise was the first to be analyzed. It revolves
around a 16-year-old girl named Katniss Everdeen, who volunteered for the
Hunger Games in place of her sister. According to Lewis (2012), The Hunger
Games presents various sources of mathematical interest, including lottery
mathematics in the reaping and game theory. For this project, we only
focused on the probabilities presented in the movie, as we also related them
to the social issues shown in it. Lottery mathematics is used to determine the
possibilities of winning and losing a lottery game (Wikipedia, 2022).
