employed. The former illustrates the equation that shows the frequency of
children’s names appearing in the lottery and how it changes over time, while
the latter depicts how the chances of being selected in the Hunger Games,
aside from increasing over time, also rise at an increasing rate (Lewis, 2012).
The second movie to be analyzed was The Hunt. The movie is about
how the elite hunts and kills people who spoke negative things about them
just for their satisfaction. The cinematography showed several mathematical
concepts such as parallel lines, symmetry, and the golden ratio. Moreover, the
probability of making a mistake in choosing the participants in the hunting was
not calculated thus causing the elite their lives. This means that no matter
how much time and effort is given to planning there will always be a margin of
error that must be taken into account to achieve goals. It also focused on
decision-making and that there are many solutions to one problem. The
protagonist in the movie showed exceptional decision-making skills and a
sense of direction which led her to success no matter what problem she
encountered.
The third movie to be analyzed was the movie ‘Don’t Look Up.’ It is
about the discovery of Comet Dibisasky which is five to ten kilometers wide,
will directly hit the Earth in six months and 14 days and will cause human
extinction. Throughout the journey of the scientists to warn the public, the
ignorance of the people with power and the public was showcased in the
movie as they did not take them seriously even with presented data from them
and other scientists around the world. The mathematical concept presented in
the movie is how they used Gauss’s method for orbital determination.
Mathematical certainty is also mentioned in the movie as they assessed the
certainty of the planet-killer’s impact.
The last movie to be analyzed was the movie 'Parasite' directed by
Director Bong Joon-Ho. The movie is about how a family living in poverty
infiltrates the house and lives of a rich family by being employed by them.
Mathematical concepts are evident in the movie, especially with its
highly-praised cinematography that showed symmetry, framing, and angles
