This month Numark Information
               Services Team brings you…

              Common Controlled

              Drug questions

The Information Services Team is available to assist Numark members with any
Controlled Drug (CD) questions they may encounter in their daily practice. These are
               the four most common ones:
               Appropriate Date
Pharmacies will often receive a batch of instalment prescriptions from their Substance
Misuse partners and they will all be dated by the prescriber at the same time but will
be supplied for the next few months’ treatment. Everyone is aware that the validity
of a CD prescription for schedule 2, 3 and 4 is 28 days, but the use of an appropriate
date allows the production of several prescriptions for each patient at the same time.
The appropriate date is either the signature date or any other date indicated on
the prescription (by the prescriber) as a date before which the drugs should not be
               supplied – whichever is later.

                                                           Example:

              This is the

              appropriate date

              This is the
              signature date

               In this example, even though
               the prescription was dated 1st
October, it would be valid from
               11th November for 28 days.
