Using technology
to improve patient
experience.
By Caroline Pond.
Nowadays there are numerous IT
solutions to improve efficiency in
General Practice yet in the dispensary
we are sometimes still working in a very
traditional manual manner, which results
in inefficiencies and increased workload.
Adopting some of the tech we all have
available to us can have a dramatic
impact on managing workload and
improving patient experience.
Take ‘texting’ for one. We all use one form
or another of messaging on a day to
day basis to communicate with friends,
family, delivery drivers, hairdressers… well,
everyone really. So how come so many
dispense messaging to communicate
with patients?
I’m a great believer in communication
being key to good relationships and that
philosophy can and should include the
relationship we have with our patients
who are after all, our customers. With
just a little effort we can easily introduce
messaging to communicate with our
patients. Now we can inform patients
of changes to our services or instruct
them on how we wish them to behave
when it comes to the services they wish
to access. But the greatest impact in
the dispensary is had by utilising this
channel of communication to inform
patients when their prescriptions are
ready for collection.
If you are not sold on the value of
messaging patients, then let me try and
persuade you to think again, by asking a
few questions.
