Momentous celebration as pharmacy reaches
40-YEAR
MILESTONE
It’s not every day that a pharmacy can say it has been around for 40 years
but that’s exactly what Michael Singh’s pharmacies based in Ashfield and
Nottingham, can proudly say and are celebrating the occasion in style!
The Singhs will be celebrating in September by having bag pipers, traditional
Indian dancers and a traditional Indian dance Bangla group as well as lavish
costumes. Invites have been sent out to the local employees and the Lord
Mayors of the Councils. The event offers a great opportunity to sit back and
think how the journey all started.
We spoke to Michael Singh, the head of
Lowmoor Chemist and M N Singh Chemist
about what he thinks has helped his family
business have continued success. His sons,
Baljinder, Gurmer and Gurperj are an integral
part of the pharmacy and have helped to
expand and drive extra services for the
business.
Michael qualified as a pharmacist in 1978,
and he began his career as relief pharmacist
for Boots for five years, managing over 40
of the retail pharmacies in Nottinghamshire,
Lincolnshire and Leicestershire. He then
proceeded to work at an independent
pharmacy for one year and that is where he
gained the majority of his experience. After
that he decided to take the plunge and give it
a go on his own.
“You know, I was about 27 or 28 then.” Michael
recalled. “I had the opportunity to set up in
1984 in August in a place called Kirkby in
Ashfield, it was a tiny little pharmacy, and it
was a tough journey. Then six months later,
I had the opportunity to set up another
pharmacy in a place called Arnold, which is
the second branch in Nottingham.”
