I embarked on my professional journey with dispensing doctors in 2002
and proudly launched PSUK on April 1st, 2005. PSUK was established
on the solid foundation of the North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors
(NYED) co-operative, with the mission to provide both dispensing and
non-dispensing doctors with exceptional discounts on pharmaceutical
and non-pharmaceutical products. Our strategic partnership with
PHOENIX Healthcare quickly positioned them as our preferred wholesaler,
bolstering our exclusive Manufacturer Discounts Scheme.
In the early days, I faced numerous challenges while expanding PSUK into
new regions such as Suffolk, Shropshire, Cumbria, and Cornwall, initially
serving as the sole salesperson for the group. However, over time, our
team grew. Despite the demands of travel, I relished the opportunity to
explore new places. Given the rural nature of dispensing doctors, I was
fortunate to experience some truly breathtaking scenery.
Our success in growing membership led to PHOENIX acquiring PSUK
in 2007. My role transitioned from director and shareholder to being
part of a larger organisation that could propel PSUK from strength to
strength. Like any business, we encountered challenges, but there were
also abundant opportunities that were fully realised under PHEONIX’s
ownership. Even today, I firmly believe that PSUK holds a competitive edge
over any other buying group. Initiatives like Brand Switch and APM have
created optimal scenarios for our members. While negotiations presented
challenges, transparency and honesty allowed us to overcome them.
I stepped down from my responsibilities at PSUK in 2018, and it was a
pleasure to hand over the reins to Ian Redmond, formerly of GSK. Ian was
an exceptional leader and colleague. After Ian’s retirement in 2021, Simon
Coles took over, and he has been outstanding in leading PSUK. Simon’s
dedication and passion for PSUK is truly remarkable, he is the right
person to adopt my first “baby”.
I often spend time on LinkedIn, and I am always proud to see colleagues
who share the same passion for the business, Julie Darley and
Sarah Sainsbury, both sales managers who have shown unwavering
commitment to PSUK.
I challenge anyone to find a proposition similar to PSUK’s—the loyalty
from our members is extraordinary, thanks to the strong proposition,
service, and support our team provides. While I am not fully aware
of recent changes in the dispensing doctors market, I am conscious
that propositions have evolved. I recommend any dispensing doctor
to explore Golden Tote and consider supporting the dispensing of
a broader portfolio of medicines typically used in hospital settings.
Legacy processes can create inefficiencies, and there are numerous
opportunities to improve.
I recently transitioned into a new role in Europe, focusing on Commercial
Business Development. In this role, I aim to help expand PHOENIX’s
presence and drive growth in key therapies. We are also looking to
enhance the European Strategic Partnership program by strengthening
it through a strong Key Account Management initiative, supported by a
unified CRM platform.
Additionally, as specialty medicine continues to grow faster than
traditional areas, PHOENIX plans to further diversify its offerings to
cover more stages of a pharmaceutical product’s life cycle. This will be
supported by an upstream campaign to reinforce PHOENIX’s position as
a leader in integrated healthcare services across Europe.
