numeracy exam, a presentation, an assignment, a portfolio,
and an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).
The integration of practice and theory was crucial, with

When asked about advice for Numark members considering
becoming IP’s in the future, Yara offers valuable insights:
"First, find a supportive DPP who aligns with your chosen
competency. Second, choose a course that suits your
preferences, considering face-to-face or online options.
Third, don't procrastinate on coursework; early engagement
makes it more manageable. Networking with colleagues is
valuable for learning. For new Numark members, embracing
prescribing roles is crucial as it aligns with the evolving

healthcare landscape. It opens opportunities for new
income streams and positions pharmacy as a
more clinical setting for patients. Additionally,
members should ensure they have the right
insurance and tools for the services they plan
to deliver. Selecting a competency aligned
with personal passion or community needs
is also beneficial."
Regarding the benefits for members, Yara
emphasises the forward-thinking nature of this
qualification: "This is the way forward; we can
see a change in patients’ behaviour and they
are willing to pay for private treatment. With
Pharmacy First, patient’s views will start slowly
to see pharmacy as a clinical setting rather than
just collecting prescriptions. It offers a good income
stream, especially if members choose to charge
privately—a new income stream they are currently
missing out on."
Yara concludes with a light note about her experience:
"Returning to study after many years as a pharmacist
felt nostalgic and amusing. Finding the right DPP,
choosing the right course, managing time effectively,
and utilising support for success in coursework are key
takeaways."
