Dispensing Doctor Discount Scale 2024
Total basic price of drugs
per month (£) Discount rate (%)
1-2000 3.17
2001-4000 5.93
4001-6000 7.21 The obvious way to make sure you do not
6001-8000 8.06 fall into loss after clawback, is to make sure
8001-10000 8.68 all the branded products you prescribe, and
10001-12000 9.19 purchase attract a greater than 11.18%
discount from the manufacturer.
12001-14000 9.60
14001-16000 9.97 Here comes the first question – who is
16001-18000 10.29 responsible for doing just that? Do you
18001-20000 10.57 know? Do you audit your branded prescribing
to check? If you are answering NO, then I am
20001-22000 10.82 guessing your dispensary business is not
22001-24000 11.03 being managed to the extent it needs to be.
24001 and above 11.18
This leads to my second question for you to ask. Can you see all your sign-ups for all the
manufacturer discount schemes? It is not good enough to just ask in the dispensary and
have someone say, ‘don’t worry we are signed up to everything’; you need to see the proof.
How will we do that? Well, you can ask for sign up reports from your wholesalers as a
starting point, but I would say even that isn’t enough. You need to see the rebates coming
into the business to truly confirm you are achieving the discounts you are expecting.
Those schemes showing red
need YOU to sign up. Get it
done pronto so you do not
lose out on discounts. You
also need to check that
the scheme hasn’t been
blocked for your practice.
