Here we can see that no discount is being applied to nearly all the Aspire
products purchased. A closer look at the MDS scheme notes reveals why.
So, either the MDS is not signed up or the rebates have been removed
or capped at zero on most of these lines. Either way this needs your
urgent attention, and a full investigation needs to be carried out. You
are £447 down on the rebates here and if this goes on month after
month that’s a hefty over £5000 in the year. If you are already signed
up but removed, then maybe the discount can be re-installed if you
speak to Aspire. Their phone number is there so a follow up is required.
The above process should be somebody’s job each month. You will be
looking for your most recent rebate report and then looking for the
corresponding months sales report which will be two months earlier.
Now compare the two. If you bought something branded, does it have
an MDS scheme? If it does can you see the rebate on the MDS report?
One note here - In some cases the discount is applied to the invoice
price (but not very often) and there are a few Pharma companies who
will rebate you directly. eg Teva, Ridge, GlucoRx, so these will need
checking via your bank statements, but all in all its not a massive job
and doing it thoroughly can reveal massive avoidable losses.
Remember to check the same for your other suppliers. Don’t leave
any stones unturned here and allow losses to chip away at your
profits. Examine your team’s attention to detail on this task and make
sure it is not a job that gets pushed back because staff are too busy.
Trust me, this really does make a difference.
