Prescription Prepayment Certificates (PPCs): For
those who are not exempt from prescription charges
but require regular medications, PPCs are available.
A PPC acts as a season ticket for prescription
charges, allowing patients to make a one-time
payment for a three- or twelve-month certificate,
covering all necessary prescription charges during
that period.Credit, etc).
Revenue from prescription charges
The revenue generated from prescription charges
goes into the NHS budget, specifically into the NHS
Prescription Services. This money contributes to the overall
funding of the healthcare system, which covers various
aspects of patient care, including the cost of medications,
healthcare professionals’ salaries, medical equipment, and
infrastructure maintenance.
Some of the funds generated from prescription charges
also go to NHS dispensing contractors, such as
yourselves, as a way of compensating you for your role in
distributing and managing prescription medications. This
remuneration is the dispensing fee and helps cover the
operational costs in the dispensary.
Finally, a portion of the revenue collected from prescription
charges is used to cover administrative costs associated with
managing the prescription charging system, including the
processing of payments, handling exemptions, and auditing to
prevent abuse of the system.
