The first time that I went for Hiking was at Karnala. I was almost an adolescent. That time I
didn’t even know what hiking means but I was fond of observing the beauty of nature. So, my
parents told me that we were going for a picnic spot with best scenery that I had ever seen in
my life. And, of course, it was planned by my cousin’s aunt. They booked a mini family bus for
travelling. And guess what, it was summer season! The scorching sun was shining on bus and
the temperature inside it was at top of the thermometer. As we were getting baked in the heat
of the bus, the scenery outside the window was mesmerizing and I still remember it clearly-
the road surrounded by dark green trees, and the birds chirping in their melodious tone and a
cold breeze passing as we drove past that passage.

After a perfect one and half hour of travelling, we reached our destination. Everyone stretched
their limbs and was preparing to start the hike. And then there was me who had no clue what
were they preparing for. My mother gave me boots with amazing sole grip, as if they were made
for hiking only. After half an hour, we started the hike, the mountain we had to hike on was
huge and full of boulders, but there was a passage made for hikers and it was full of rocks on
which we could hold our grip and climb up. After forty-five minutes of climb, we reached at a
checkpoint where we had our snacks and, after ten minutes, we again started the climb to the
top. There was a region with no trees to shade us and again we started to get baked in the Sun,
it was only for thirty minutes but it felt like an hour to me.

After that there was a second check point where a warning was written that the climb ahead
is difficult, most of the elderly people were sitting at that check point. We took a ten minutes
break over there. And continued our climb to the top of the mountain. From the second
checkpoint it took us thirty minutes to reach the top.

They say “Hard work pays off”, and it really did though. The view at the top of the mountain
was mesmerizing- the green forests on one side and sea on the other; the huge mountains
were looking small from that perspective. I could see the road we used to get there and there
was a region where you could hear your own voice echoing numerous times. I tried that and
I was so amazed. After staying there for two hours and having lunch, there were mini vans
waiting for us at the second checkpoint. I was relaxed after hearing this news. So, the total
hike for us was of almost two hours. This was my first experience and I totally enjoyed it.
