About the authors    253



             Yvonne Morland is a poet and writer of liturgical and other material. Her writing is
             largely inspired by the process of trying to live a faith-full life while retaining an open
             and inclusive heart in this time of many trials in our world. Yvonne is a member of the
             Iona Community and glad to be part of a laughing, dancing, singing group of people
             who also seek to live the justice of the Gospel in today’s world.

             Jean Murdoch died in spring 2003. She lived in Oban and was an associate member of
             the Iona Community. Her work also appears in A Book of Blessings and in Friends and
             Enemies, both published by Wild Goose Publications.

             da Noust is an informal circle of members and friends of L’Arche Edinburgh. L’Arche is
             an ecumenical community welcoming adults with learning difficulties, assistants and
             others to a shared life. The word Noust is Orcadian for a boat shelter on the shore, a
             place to withdraw for rest and renewal, prior to setting out fishing once more in the

             Neil Paynter is the editor/author of Lent & Easter Readings from Iona, This is the Day, and
             Blessed Be Our Table, all published by Wild Goose Publications. In 2003, he was a final-
             ist in the Daily Record’s nation wide comedy competition ‘Search For A Stand-up Star’.
             He lives in Biggar, Scotland. For many years he worked in the social care field.

             Jan Sutch Pickard is a poet, storyteller and Methodist local preacher, who for five and a
             half years worked for the Iona Community on Iona, latterly as warden.

             Chris Polhill was one of the first women priests in the Church of England, and this year
             (2004) celebrates 20 years in ministry and 10 years as a priest. She currently works in
             the Lichfield diocese as a member of a team ministry, and on a Reflections project (five
             gardens on the Christian spiritual journey) with her husband, John. (Visit the gardens at
             www.reflectiongardens.org.uk) She is a member of the Iona Community and a frequent
             contributor to Wild Goose books.

             Gary Polhill is a scientist and lives in Aberdeen.

             John Polhill is a member of the Iona Community.


             Jo Rathbone is married with two children. She says, ‘As a family we try to make choices
             that are good for the planet and its people, particularly walking, cycling and using
             public transport.’


             Donald Rennie is a member of the Iona Community.
