LESSON 4

Relationship with Creation: Genesis 1:24-30

Learning Goals: The student will realize his/her responsibility to participate in care of creation.

Preparation:

1. Read through the passage daily for the week prior. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you insight

into it.

2. Pray for the learners. Ask the Lord to make them receptive to the Word.

4. Find/print an article on an environmental disaster.

Welcome: The seats will be arranged in a circle to facilitate conversation.

Opening:

1. Opening prayer (2-3 minutes)

2. Briefly describe where this lesson fits in with the unit. (5 minutes)

Presenting:

1. Read (or if lengthy) summarize the article (5 minutes).

2. The leader can read the scripture passage or ask a student to do so. (5 minutes)

3. Explain how abuse of the natural world contradicts the stated purpose in the creation

narrative. (10 minutes)

Exploring (10 minutes):

1. “Describe how caring for creation is an act of worship to God.”
