I know an individual who previously worked for the IRS. He hated his work there because the IRS
would dictate what he could and could NOT say to taxpayers who called in for assistance. He ultimately
left his position at the IRS because he often felt he knew how the tax code could truly help the people
asking for assistance, but as an IRS employee he was not allowed to disclose that helpful information.
I don’t think the IRS is trying to be the bad guy, it’s just a system that has evolved over time and created
rule after rule to prevent people from evading their taxes.
But it is now to the point where the very people who want to get compliant on their taxes and reach
some kind of agreement need a thousand different roadmaps to navigate the complexity of the IRS
system.
Although this book won’t change the system, at least we can help taxpayers understand the process.
