Pay attention to these dates. Did you notice that payments aren’t evenly spaced throughout the year?
This can become confusing if you don’t work with accounting and taxes every day. Don’t let these
inconsistencies trip you up on making timely Estimated Tax Payments!
The IRS has a form they want you to send in with your payments and it’s called Form 1040-ES
Voucher. On the memo line of the check write “Estimated Tax Payment for tax year 20xx” and in place
of the “x”s just specify the current year.
Making an estimated tax payment is the most important first step you can take. It doesn’t matter when
you are reading this book. The important thing is to start now. The money you owe the IRS is your
“old” problem from your past, and we want you to be on a better path going forward.
Once you make your first payment, you know that you are officially putting a stop to the bleeding! You
are taking control of your situation and saying enough is enough! The IRS will recognize that too!
