Supplementary Subject Learning Area of Social Studies
Level M.5 Semester 2 40 periods : 1 credit
The learning area of this course is aimed at innovating and stimulating skills-based programme that
can be used to explore current issues and develop vital skills. Being able to communicate effectively is
perhaps the most important of all life skills. It is what enables students to pass information to others, and
to understand what is said. Students will learn how to differentiate the listening to hearing, give reaction to
a speech and give their understanding, showing videos that will test their hearing and students will sumarise
the video base on their understanding. Then Students will select a topic to be presented, question and
answer for a random issue, focus on building confidence in speaking to the crowd, students will have an
opportunity to deal with a big crowd. Provide the students an opportunity to explore its ability in the four
pillars of communication. Moreover, the students can develop their open-mindedness and learn to consider
issues from other perspective, express their own opinions on issues of global importance, gain an
independent world-view and become global thinker and raise awareness and take action on issues to
st
develop their thinking skills towards the 21 century.
The teaching procedures introduced in this course focus on acquiring and developing skills rather
than on subject knowledge. Students will focus more on identifying problems and there four keys areas for
improvement that they need to develop which are learn to listen, studying and understanding, non-verbal
communication, emotional awareness and management and questioning skills. Reading, listening, writing
and speaking are the pillars of communication skills which students need to comply with the topic of Family
and Tradition, Sport and Health, Technology and Leisure, Education and Employment, Environment and
Animals, and Justice and Conflict. These topics can include wide range of issues, and student will be able
to explore each topic in a way that suits their own areas of interest.
The course also enables students to instill the desirable characteristics, including Emotional
Intelligence, Cohesion and Clarity, Friendliness, Confidence, Empathy, Respect, Listening, Open-Mindedness,
Tone of Voice, Asking Good Questions. Also to be successful in the world that they live in, seeing and
understanding how the world works and how we are all interconnected through trade, media, the internet,
travel and politics. Broadening their sense of normal, their idea of how to interact with others, seeing a
company operate in different regions of the world. All of these things are hugely beneficial to being
employable in the 21st century, and being healthy and well-balanced.

9. Students are able to create article out of the topic.
