Residency Requirements
New Nevada residents are required to obtain a Nevada driver license and complete vehicle
registration within 30 days of establishing residency. Failing to register a vehicle on time can result
in significant penalties, with fines that may reach up to $1,000, though they are often reduced once
compliance is completed.

To receive a Nevada driver license, you must be a state resident and provide a valid Nevada street
address. Nevada does not allow individuals to hold driver licenses or state ID cards from more than
one state at the same time.

Active duty military members, along with their spouses and dependents who are temporarily living in
Nevada, are generally not required to transfer their out of state license or vehicle registration.

Driver licenses are not issued to short term visitors. Foreign nationals may qualify for either a Nevada
driver license or a driver authorization card depending on their immigration status and eligibility
documentation.
