Generic Name: Diclofenac
Brand names: Voltaren
Side effects/precautions:
Possible gastric ulcer and damage. possible renal failure. not to be used by pregnant females (last
trisem). possibly trigger asthma, angiooedmea, urticaria. some studies show use of NSAIDS can link to
severe cardiovacsular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction. Preoperative administration
may increase risk of post operative bleeding. May lead to onset of hypertension or worsening of it.
fluid retention and oedema observed in some patients leading to heart failure. serious skin reactions
Interactions:
Diuretics and anti-hypersensitive agents, Other NSAIDS and corticosteroids, anti-coagulants and anti-
platlet agents, SSRIs, Anti-diabetic drugs, Gluco-cortiocoids
Reasons for interactions:
May cause a decrease in an anti-hypertensive effect. Certain NSAIDs should be avoided due to possible
adverse reactions, SSRIs increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Interactions with anti-diabetic
agents could possibly lead to hyper/hypoglycaemia.
