Generic Name: Erythromycin
Brand names: EES, E-mycin, Eryc
Side effects/precautions:
Allergic reaction side effects, dizziness, muscle pain, weakness
Precautions: if used for more than 3 weeks check renal function and red blood count.
Interactions:
Erythromycin (should not coadmin); CYP3A4/ 3A5 inhibitors, strong 3A4 inducers eg rifampicin;
neuromuscular blockers. Antagonism has been demonstrated between clindamycin and erythromycin
in vitro. Because of possible clinical significance, these two drugs should not be administered
concurrently.
Reasons for interactions:
Increased risk of myopathy and hepatic function.
