4.2.4 Social Skills Class
This is group or one-on-one instruction at home, in school, or in the community. The aim is to improve
how a child interacts socially and forms bonds with others. This usually means learning through role
playing or practice. Classes are often led by a therapist. Like ABA, parent training is keys to helping a
child improve his social skills.
4.2.5 Sensory integration therapy
This is used to help children learn to use all their senses together that is, touch, smell, taste, sight and
hearing. It's claimed that this therapy can improve the challenging behaviour that's caused by
difficulties with processing sensory information.
4.3 Community Responsibilities
Almost the majority of the general public in the country is aware that April each year is a month
celebrated specifically for the campaign to raise awareness of autism. The public may agree that
awareness of this matter is rising as a result of awareness campaigns held every year over the past ten
years, starting with the creation of the Psychology and Health program on IKIM fm radio on the
Problem of Child Neural Development Disorders, which has been going on since 2009, and the official
establishment of the Kuala Lumpur Gift Centre PERMATA in 2015.
Further, awareness issues should also focus on disseminating information about providers related
to treatment and rehabilitation as well as education and training to individuals with autism and their
families. It is more about convenience in terms of getting the right treatment and intervention at the
right time. However, this issue requires systematic and integrated efforts by all parties and involves
various agencies at the national level which will hopefully be more manageable and brilliant in the
future.
