2. The four corners are right angles.

               3. The diagonals are the same length and bisect each other. Based on the

                  properties of the rectangle above, then:

                  A rectangle is a quadrilateral in which all four angles are right

                  angles and the opposite sides are the same length.

                  Do the following exercise before starting the lesson!

                Perimeter and Area of Rectangle

               a. Perimeter of the Rectangle.

               The perimeter of the rectangle is the sum

               the sides of a rectangle or the sum

               the length of the four sides.

               In the picture beside,

               around ABCD = AB  BC  CD DA

               on the rectangle. The longer side is called the length denoted by p, and the

               shorter side is called the width, which is denoted by l.

               So AB  CD  p dan BC  AD = l

               Thus, the perimeter of the rectangle ABCD is defined by

               K = p + p + l + l = 2p + 2l = 2(p + l)

               With           K = 2(p + l)

                              p = Length

                              l  = Width

                              k = Diameter

               Area of Rectangle

               In Figure 1.2, ABCD is a rectangle with a length of 5 square units and a

               width of 4 square units.

                                                                                                         6
