Area ABCD = number of unit squares in
                                                      the rectangular area ABCD = 20 units

                      Gambar 1.2

               The area of ABCD obtained is equal to the product of the length, and the

               width.

               So, area of ABCD = length x width = 5 x 4 = 20.

               From the description above, we get the formula for the area of a rectangle

                              L = p x l

               With           p = Length

                              l = Width

                              L = Area of rectangle

               Example Given the rectangle ABCD, the width is 2 cm less than the length. If

               the perimeter is 36 cm, find:

               a. perimeter of rectangle ABCD and

               b. area of rectangle ABCD.

               Solution:

               Is known l = (p – 2) cm and K = 36 cm

               K = 2(p + l)

               36 = 2(p + p – 2)

               36 = 4p – 4

                                                                                                         7
