WHAT’S ON
After what seems to have been
only a very short break we are now preparing for the start of the new season. We have already received the League structures for both the 1st and 2nd XV’s and are awaiting the new Youth League. For both 1st and 2nd XV’s pre-season matches have been arranged and these are shown below together other important events.
There are a number of new faces in the senior section with Martin Keylock taking on the role of senior Backs coach and with Ewan Williams having been elected as 1st XV captain. Having acquitted ourselves well in Division 1 last season we are looking forward, with some con dence, to our second season. I know that players and coaches would appreciate as much support as possible in what is likely to be an interesting build up to the new season.

LOTTERY UPDATE
In spite of numerous attempts to stir up interest and commitment to the Club Lottery we have not been able to re-generate the interest that made our Lottery such a success in its early years. This is disappointing when we have Roll Over Prize fund of over £2,000 and a guaranteed weekly prize of £25.
With our last push we did manage to obtain a number of additional members of our Standing Order Scheme but, for the Lottery to have a major funding impact, we need more members of that scheme. We genuinely are at a Cross Roads. I think that I speak for most of the small group of Lottery Organisers when I say that I have been happy to give up my time to ensure that the scheme runs ef ciently and that it delivers an effective pro t which the club can use for development. If I was asked to state a target gure, then that would be a pro t of £100 per week as a minimum. For the past two years we have been well below that target. There, therefore, has to be a question as to whether the time and effort spent on collecting and administering the Lottery is effective and sustainable.
Over the past few years we have tried to sell tickets at additional outlets but that requires additional help which has not been forthcoming and in fact the number of outlets we have
has reduced considerably. We, therefore, introduced the Standing Order Scheme which, in truth, has helped us to at least continue to the present. Another new batch of members of that scheme would help considerably and so I would ask every member and friend of the club to think about participating in the scheme. If we could achieve that then our target gure would easily be surpassed.
Standing Order Forms can be obtained from the club or from the web site (www.breconrfc.co.uk – The Club – Brecon RFC Lottery) where weekly results are posted.
TWO FORMER BRECON RFC PLAYERS AT THE PRINCIPALITY STADIUM
Brecon Rugby Club
Congratulations to two of our former mini and junior players Ioan Edwards and Tom Wardle who both played for Cardiff Metropolitan University in the Welsh Youth Cup nal at the Principality Stadium on 23rd April 2016.
UWIC played Cowbridge RFC Youth in the nal and unfortunately lost out on the day by 13 points to 6. Well done both of you and we hope you enjoyed the experience.
