              For  comparison,  Figure below  shows  the  block diagram  of  a  processor unit for  a  large  mainframe

             computer system. The main components in this system are one or more CPUs, memory, and a variety of
             disks and other I/O devices, connected to the processor with an I/O channel system. In this diagram, the

             processor unit includes the CPUs, memory, and I/O interface components. Specialized internal buses

             interconnect the various parts of the processor unit. The keyboard and video display connected to the

             processor unit are used only for control of the system. Other terminals and workstations are connected
             to the processor in directly, through the I/O system or by network. In addition, multiple processor units

             may be coupled together to form a large, integrated computer facility that can share programs and data.
