                        How does a user determine which portion of the address identifies the network and
                which portion identifies the host? The answer begins with the designers of the Internet, who
                thought networks would be built in different sizes, depending on the number of computers
                (hosts) they contained, as shown in Table 2-1 and Table 4-1.
