DEEP REST
She didn't wait. She grabbed the book and pulled
Liam, towards the broken window. "Jump!"
"It's too high!" Liam protested, looking down at
the narrow alleyway below. It was a good fifteen feet
drop.
"There's a dumpster!" Evelyn yelled. "Aim for it!"
The first man was almost on them, the taser
buzzing.
She shoved Liam through the jagged opening.
"Go!"
He hesitated for a split second, then launched
himself through the window, landing with a THUD in
the dumpster.
"He's gone!" the second man yelled.
"Get her!" the first man snarled, lunging for
Evelyn.
She was halfway through the window, her legs
still inside the clinic. She kicked out, catching the man
in the chest, pushing him back.
She squeezed through the jagged opening and
dropped, landing hard on the pavement next to the
dumpster.
"Doctor!" Liam cried from inside the dumpster.
She scrambled to her feet, ignoring the pain. "Run,
Liam! Go! Don't look back!"
