           Abstract:

Due to the gap caused by the unfamiliar participatory practices in education,

international students coming to study in the United States from traditional environments of learning
may face some sort of challenges of understanding and using e-learning and its applications. This study
aims to explore the challenges of e-learning encountered by Saudi students at the University of Florida.
The study is conducted during the summer semester of the 20182019 academic year through the period
from May 13, 2019, to August 9, 2019. A total of 39 Saudi students (19 males and 20 females) taking
an extensive English language course participated in the study. Two research approaches were used:
the descriptive approach to build the theoretical framework and describe the challenges of e-learning,
and the analytical approach to analyze the preliminary results. Data collected by a questionnaire based
on a comprehensive review of literature focusing on the challenges of e-learning and its applications.
The Likert formula was used to measure the relative weighted scores of questionnaire items. The main
findings revealed that almost all Saudi students could face some sort of e-learning challenges during
their study at the University of Florida. Moreover, these challenges increased in male students (60%)
more than in female students (53.3%).
