Senior Camp
Canberra, ACT
Day ONE: After a very early morning flight to Sydney, the senior students stopped at Circular Quay for a quick leg stretch, something to eat and a celebratory photo for Ms McDonald, who was celebrating her birthday! Even the pilot and the crew on the flight got into the celebrations with many other passengers joining in a noisy rendition of Happy Birthday! The afternoon consisted of a scenic drive through the NSW countryside with a lunch stop in the Southern Highlands and a visit to Capernwray Bible School.
That evening, the senior students had a fantastic time at the Australian Institute of Sport. They had fun competing with each other, trying out Olympic sports in the Sportex interactive game centre. It certainly tired
everyone out!
DAY TWO: After a lovely cooked breakfast, the group went to the fascinating National Museum
of Australia as part of the ‘Meet the People’ program. During the morning, the students had a tour inside Government House, where Mr Carson was privileged to play the national anthem on the grand piano. The next stop was the Museum of Australian Democracy, where the students learned how bills are passed through Parliament. After that, they took part in a role-play debate in the Senate Room of Old Parliament House. After lunch in the nearby rose garden, the students visited the National Electoral Education Centre, where they learned how to vote and how preferential voting works.
