which the processes of agriculture have been
revolutionized within the memory of
multitudes now living.
2. On the circular shield is the cotton gin,
which in its first rude form, by Whitney, in
1793, lifted cotton culture into one of the great
industries of the world.
3. The sewing-machine, of the importance of
which in the industrial world since its
invention by Elias Howe, Jr., in 1846, nothing
need be said.
