CHAPTER 8 - THE INSURANCE AND SPORTING FAMILY
Pop took up a position with the Northern London and Scottish and World Auxiliary Group of Companies in Cape Town. Around 14 years later, he moved to Johannesburg to take up the position of General Manager of the Dominion Insurance Company of SA.

He was a sporting icon, playing first league cricket in both P. E. and Cape Town as well as playing rugby. After retiring from rugby, he became a rugby referee, refereeing many senior games in Western Province as well as being appointed the Secretary of the Referees Association. But it was on the athletic racetrack that Pop performed extremely well, with the distinction of being the four and 10 mile champion of Eastern Province for a number of years. He was also exceptionally proud of winning the St George Farrar Trophy for the one mile which he only entered to warm up for the 10 mile.
He was very active in many charities and when it came to sport, he was just about Chairman of everything that moved including cricket and rugby clubs as well as baseball, although he never ever played the game..
