CHAPTER 8 - THE INSURANCE AND SPORTING FAMILY
Maureen
Maureen, my second sister, worked for a number of years at the Norwich Group in South Africa and then in Australia for Norwich Winterthur She married Brian Osborn who was the Head Office Claims Manager of General Accident in Johannesburg and later Head Office Claims Manager of NW in Melbourne. Subsequently they moved to Perth where Brian was Claims Manager of RAC WA.
Maureen’s contribution to sport was through hockey where she teamed up with Pat and they played for the same Club. Her coach was much the same as Pat’s in that Dad (Pop) was always on the sidelines and sometimes I think they wished he would just disappear. Maureen also played tennis and later in life took up the sport of golf where she plays once or twice a week with her husband, but I have never dared to ask them who wins.
Sheelagh
Sheelagh my youngest sister held a senior position in reinsurance with Guy Carpenter Insurance Company Limited in Johannesburg. She married Ken Rickson who was a Liability Loss Adjuster. Unfortunately, like Don, Ken has passed away. Today their daughter Jacqueline Rickson is the Chief Executive Group Manager, Group Risk Business at Sanlam Developing Markets Ltd.
