NYSAPLS & NYSGISA Partner for
Roundtable to Address Access to Public Information
By NYSAPLS Ad hoc DOT Relations Committee
The New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors
(NYSAPLS) and the New York State Geographic Information
System Association (NYSGISA) held a productive roundtable
discussion last week with partners from across New York,
including state agencies and local governments. The roundtable,
entitled “Government and Business Information: A conversation
about public record access, portals and shared services” was
featured on Monday, September 25th during NYSGISA’s NYGeoCon
2023 event held at the Crowne Plaza Desmond Hotel in Albany, NY.
The purpose of the roundtable was to address best practices for
handling information access between state and local government
and surveyors, design professionals and the other stakeholders
that work on behalf of the general public. Having readily available
and accessible filed and legal documents that dictate land rights
and record information is essential for these industries to work in
the best interest of the general public.

Land Surveyor. It is important to NYSAPLS that we safeguard the
health, safety, and welfare of the public and to maintain diligent
professional conduct.
Having readily available and accessible filed and legal
documents such as State, County and Town appropriation maps,
easements and other filed documents that dictate land rights is
