4 COLOURS OF CRANBROOK, WINTER 2019
What do the new Aged Care Quality
Standards mean for you?
The new Aged Care Quality Standards which come in on 1 July 2019 have
a stronger focus on residents making choices, decisions and solutions for
how they want to live their life.
You need to understand the Aged Care
Quality Standards and the requirements
and how your role supports the provision of
quality care and services for our residents.
When accreditation happens (unannounced
visits), what our residents and staff say
will be the main evidence so the choices,
decisions and solutions for managing choices
need to be clearly documented.
As staff you have a key role in
demonstrating performance against the
Standards. Training will be available for
staff and a new online Policies & Procedures
platform will be launched soon which reflect
the new Aged Care Quality Standards.

Standard 1 is the foundation standard that underpins Standard 2 involves assessments, care plans and
all the standards. It contains seven important concepts; review and evaluation of care plans. Assessments are
dignity and respect, identity, culture and diversity, done in partnership with residents (or their authorised
cultural safety, choice, dignity of risk, information and representatives) to identify their needs, choices and
personal privacy. Importantly we need to treat residents preferences. We need to work with residents to provide
with dignitiy and respect and help residents to make care and services that meets their choices, preferences
day-to-day choices so they have control over their lives, and needs.
