Tell Me Why
Cultures and well defined purposes attract and retain
top talent, engage workers more deeply, who
perform better and so do their companies (Gallup)
Your Purpose is your WHY. It is not a PowerPoint presentation, poster
on a wall or few lines in your Employee Value Proposition. Yet paying lip
service to it may seem an easier option, based upon the level of
transformation going on within your industry, and the business focus on
targets and profit.
There is a purpose beyond making money or increasing shareholder
value. In a world of constant change and flux you need something that
remains as a constant – your WHY is the bit that does not change.
In an agile business environment - it is your north star - it remains
fixed – it gives meaning. It is way more than words – it is embedded in
your culture – it is lived – so it means something to everyone.
Business model disruption with agile frameworks, means companies
have dropped the charade of trying to plan too long term – now it is
about sprints, plans, projects and pivoting. So this has increased the
importance of purpose, vision and mission as the anchors for a
business – you still begin with the end in mind – the impact you want to
make in the world and then you provide an ongoing engaging
transformation narrative to take people with you.
It all starts with your ‘WHY’ story – quality engaging content is
king.
