Tell Me Why ME?
Each individual wants to know – what their role is?, where they fit in?
how they are doing? how they can help? how they can grow? ; and most
importantly, their personal WHY?
Why what they do is important for the organisation?
If you ditch the organisation charts that focus them on bosses and put
the customer at the heart of everything you do – it is easier to
explain this and it is more inclusive.
Everyone sees where they are and how they contribute in relation to the
customer and their experience. This builds pride and belonging – they
are part of something worthwhile.
Functional Support works both ways as their customers are mostly
colleagues within the business and they support the leadership. They
put the organisation and every member of the team at the heart of what
they do so that they in turn can deliver a great customer experience.
As does Leadership with responsibilities to work in the business
supporting everyone to deliver for the customer by determining
purpose, direction, priorities, guidelines and providing inspiration. They
also have a responsibility to work on the business supporting Investors
and the Board to provide a return and grow.
It also provides the foundations of better relationships with suppliers
and other stakeholders. Everyone knowing why they are important for
the business helps to get them listening, engaging and contributing.
This should explain the line of sight between their role and your
purpose. It can help everyone in every role understand why being the
best at that role matters.
