More than education, more than experience,
more than training, a person’s level of resilience
will determine who succeeds and who fails.
                                          Dean Becker, Harvard Business Review

Generating new business can be a rollercoaster affair with many ups and downs. The challenge
is keeping going when facing adversity rather than retreating to your comfort zone. Treat it as
an adventure, where you will learn loads about business and yourself. To identify how to
maintain your enthusiasm understand what motivates you and what discourages you. Ensure
you have others supporting you, coaching you and giving you feedback.

When selling our services, we can confuse this with selling ourselves – keep it separate. A

take risks and step outside of our comfort zone. In developing business as our sales funnel
shows us – it is a numbers game - if you put yourself out there – you will get success and
rejection – so recognise it is not personal. Look at the data and learn from it. It is important to
build resilience and bounce back quickly when we lose and celebrate when we win – even the
small wins. Develop a growth mindset, take the learning from every project and move on.

             7 resilience tips:
             1. Be optimistic, enthusiastic and focus on the positive.
             2. Know your own strengths and weaknesses - rely on your strengths to cope.
             3. Embrace uncertainty and do not rush decisions.
             4. Problem solve by looking at things from different perspectives – the obstacle is the way!
             5. Learn to understand your own emotional responses and manage them.
    RESILIENCE
             6. Empathise with others and gain their support.
             7. Be willing to try things and recognise failure is just part of life – a learning experience.

Make sure you create a supportive work^life environment, build your team around you,
celebrate success, manage your stress levels, take time out and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Treat your Business Development activities as an exciting learning adventure –
step out, step up and stand out!
