Week 7 hand analysis
Now we are playing real bridge and the hand diagrams have changed
again and give the suggested bidding. Note that if one side only passes
their bidding is removed from the diagram. So, suppose, for example
North deals and the bidding goes
North East South West
1NT p 3NT All pass
This will be shown as
North South
1NT 3NT
All pass
Also we should notice that now we are bidding and playing the full
version of bridge we do not know how the opponents points are
distributed.
Hand 1 Í K J 9 7
Ì A 10 8 6
North opens 1NT and his partner Ë K 9 8
should announce, "12-14". Ê Q 9
Í Q 6 5 Í 10 3 2
South looks at his own hand and
Ì Q 9 3 Ì K J 2
asks the question, "Is game on?" Yes, Ë A 7 3 Ë Q 10 6 2
No, Maybe? The answer here is "No" Ê J 10 4 3 Ê A 8 2
and so he passes. Í A 8 4

It is a notrump contract and so

North makes C. A. M. P.

Count quick tricks by power. 2 spades 1NT All pass
and 1 heart. Total 3 (4 more needed)
Add tricks from other sources (P. L. P.).
If we cross to the ÍA and finesse the Jack on the return that is a possible
trick by position if the Queen is with West and if the opponents spades
