"I am an Accounting Specialist with my school district Ref lections on Leadership
and I always looked forward to Brian’s Reflections on
Leadership. Those nuggets often helped to “ground” October 16, 2023
me and just touched my soul. I didn’t know Brian, "Ethics must begin at the top of an organization. It is a

friends." - Edward F. Hennessey
-Kelly Morrison, Lake Havasu Unified School The leader must establish a culture of ethics starting
District from the top of an organization. It is not enough to
discuss ethics; a leader must be a role model and
display ethical behavior through words and actions
in all aspects of their lives. This could include
exhibiting honesty, integrity, fairness, and respect for
all. They should lead by example and set a standard
of ethical behavior for their staff, peers, family, and
friends. This means the leader must be willing to hold
themselves and others accountable for their actions
and take appropriate action when unethical behavior
is found. The leader also needs to ensure that the
organization has a clear set of ethical standards and
policies to ensure that all employees and stakeholders
understand what is expected of them. By setting an
example and leading ethically, the leader can create
a culture of ethics that will permeate the entire
organization and all those around them.
