These experienced district leaders will share the basics of school district funding and the restrictions that are placed on
certain district expenditures. This presentation will also explore what districts can do to effectively use the
ever‐decreasing funds available.

1A: Playground Safety—Ed Stallard ‐ Mesa USD
This presentation will review the basic considerations of playground safety and the equipment, grounds, and maintenance
needed to provide safe playground facilities for students.
1B: RFP vs. IFB Solicitations ‐ Is There Difference?—Rosa Saenz ‐ The Professional Group and Bill Munch ‐ Mesa USD
This interactive discussion will identify the very distinct differences between these two types of solicitations that school
districts should be aware in their efforts to successfully facilitate the procurement process.
1C: Special Education Transportation—Antonio Mlynek ‐ Dysart USD
This session will provide updates on the latest innovations in transporting special education students. The lessons learned
and examples provided in this session will assist in addressing the many challenges that districts experience transporting
special education students.

This presentation will detail the reasons why more and more school districts using artificial turf for their athletic fields.
This session will detail the benefits of such a solution and the overall savings that can be achieved.
2B: Engine Emissions—Kevin Kays ‐ Cummins
This session will detail the latest emissions standards for your bus fleet and discuss what to expect in the future for diesel
Engines and school buses.
2C: Don’t Let it Crash Down Around You—Cobie Oja ‐ Phoenix Elementary SD and Larry Lind ‐ Architechnology
This session will detail how to plan and maintain your facilities to best keep the weather out, and more specifically how to
prolong the life of your roofs.

3A: Transportation Routing—Christine Russell ‐ CAVIT and Brett Goshert ‐Gecko Micro Systems
This session will provide transportation leaders with information on electronic routing and how it can save your district
time and money by more efficiently routing your buses.
3B: Indoor Air Quality—Galen Waterson ‐ Tempe Elementary SD
This presentation will provide information about indoor air quality concerns and what custodial staffs should be reporting
to their supervisors. Helpful tips will be presented on how to handle staff complaints about a “sick building,” and the
session will share examples of tools that can be used to help improve indoor air quality.
3C: Integrated Pest Management (IPM)—Ed Stallard ‐ Mesa USD
Learn how to control the pests in your facilities without the extensive use of pesticides. This session will detail the basics
of an integrated pest management program for your school district, the benefits of such a program, and the general steps
to follow when implementing a program.
1:45pm – 2:45pm Second General Session
Solar Power for Schools—David Peterson ‐ Scottsdale USD
This presentation will discuss and explore the latest developments in solar power and the various incentive programs
offered by the larger utility companies in Arizona. It will also describe how school districts can take advantage of these
incentive programs to install solar power systems while saving on utility costs.
