101: How Fraud Creeps Into Schools
Like the individual, under the pseudonym of
“L.W. Wright” claiming to have started in 43 rac-
es in the lower level circuit, who fraudulently en-
tered the 1982 Winston 500 by scheming many
of sponsorship funds, leaving the track after be-
ing black-flagged on lap 13, and was never iden-
tified or heard of again, fraud gets everyone’s
attention, but no one ever wants to be close to
fraud! This session will review startling statistics
around fraud and a deep dive into recent school
district related fraud cases. By understanding
how the fraud occurred, school business officials
can establish stronger internal controls to avoid
the potential fraud in their school districts.
