The role of GIS in water resources management

Abstract
Water is a valuable and essential resource, and its scarcity causes irreparable damage to the home, services, industry, agriculture and
health sectors. Today, with the advancement of science and technology to escape this crisis, many resources to provide it are offered.
However, the choice of water source has been associated with limitations such as distance, costs, quality, and environmental threats, and
so on. For this reason, this study uses the Geographic Information System (GIS) to manage the supply of water resources with the lowest
cost and least damage to the environment and the highest economic benefits in the shortest possible time. The present study is of
correlational type in terms of practical purpose and descriptive information collection method. And to determine the indicators, 9 experts
in fields related to water and soil have been answered through a standard open questionnaire. And the results show that GIS is one of
the most important methods in determining water resources management by providing a physical model and ease of reviewing and
comparing its disadvantages and advantages with the type of water resources and the type of water consumption in the area.
