Postgraduate output increased, and included a continued to nurture the other campuses, in
number of Master’s and PhD graduates.
The Faculty, in partnership with the Namibia Library
and Archives Services (NLAS), UNAM Library,
Namibia University of Science and Technology
(NUST) Library and Namibia Information Workers
Association (NIWA) organised and hosted the
Information Profession in Namibia Conference.
Some faculty members worked on an
international project, Transnationalising Modern
Languages: Global Challenges, with academics
from leading universities in the United Kingdom,
which culminated in an international conference
at UNAM in June 2017. This will be followed by
an MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) in April
2018.
Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences
During the period under review, the Faculty
graduated the highest number of undergraduate
students and Master’s students in the University.
The School of Accounting continued to
implement the provisions of the MoU with
the North West University, Republic of South
Africa. The department continues to retain a
reasonable number of foreign academic staff.
The Department continued with the annual
National Accounting Talent Search (NATS)
examination, of which the aim is to enhance
awareness of accounting as a profession and
to identify potential high school learners who
are interested in accounting as a career. Ernst
& Young was the main sponsor of NATS 2013,
and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of
Namibia was the co-sponsor.
The Department of Political and Administrative
Studies presented an important seminar with
visiting guests from Harvard University, USA. H.E.
Thomas Daughton, the ambassador of the USA
to the Republic of Namibia, is fully committed to
this.
The Department of Management Science
engaged in discussions with stakeholders
on establishing incubators. The Department

Rundu and Keetmanshoop, thereby contributing
to the University’s role of delivering high quality
business education throughout Namibia.
The Department of Economics: A public lecturer
by the honourable minister of Public Enterprise,
Mr L. Jooste, was presented. The theme was
New Public Enterprise Hybrid Model.
Namibia Business School (NBS) recruited a new
director, Prof. G. Whyte. The School maintained
membership of the Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
International, and the European Foundation
for Management Development (EFMD). The
School is a strategic partner of Team Namibia,
an associate member of the Namibia
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI)
and the Namibia Manufacturers Association
(NMA). NBS continued collaboration with the
Goethe University Frankfurt - the Faculty of
Economic and Business Administration, the
Frankfurt School of Finance and Management,
the International Graduate Centre (IGC) at
the Bremen University of the Applied Sciences,
the Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences,
as well as the Bielefeld University of Applied
Sciences. NBS is also in collaboration with
the University of Botswana Graduate School
of Business, in an initiative of The Kalahari
Dialogue. NBS is also a member of SADCnet – a
network of business schools in southern Africa.
Closer to home, NBS is in close collaboration
with the Harold Pupkewitz Graduate School of
Business at NUST.
Faculty of Law
A new staff member is now coordinating the
Legal Aid Clinic, and works with two other
colleagues who are admitted legal practitioners
of the high Court of Namibia, who supervise
final-year students working at the Clinic.
The Faculty successfully hosted the annual
conference of the Society of Law Teachers of
Southern Africa in Swakopmund. Honourable
chief justice of the Republic of Namibia, Judge
Peter Shivute, gave the keynote address.
